The Brown Hornet in Baja

Baha Crew

Our story so far

Whilst traveling through Mexico's Baja region in our beat up Ford Econovan (The Brown Hornet) which was both our car and home for many months, we quickly became hooked on Baha's famous Fish Tacos. Healthy, tasty and more importantly cheap, they provided us with all the necessary food groups required to survive the large amounts of cerveza and tequila being consumed on our trip.

Having conquered Mexico, a stint with a mormon family in Utah and a mammoth drive (6 days) back to Canada to spend a cold Christmas with friends in Fernie, we began to think seriously about the prospects of our own taco business back home in Australia.

So armed with a bunch of other mouth watering tacos as well as the famous fish taco, we started our first mobile business, Baha Tacos and quickly established ourselves on the music festival circuit as the no.1 favourite food for festival goers. Providing healthy food that catered for vegetarians and carnivores equally, we quickly developed a reputation for fast food that was both healthy and a taste sensation.

So with Nathan finishing Uni and Jahna well and truly sick of her bank job, we decided that the time was right to expand the business into our first store. Needing a spot that reflected our food and style, we settled on the beautiful shores of Rye. Close to the surf and smack bang on the bay, Rye offered the perfect spot to start our taco revolution! Surrounded by a vast surf community and a music heartbeat second to none in Australia, it took us no time to build up a loyal and loving gang of Baha regulars who have helped us establish a solid foundation in a short period of time.

With the likes of President Roots, Jimi Hocking, Marty Williams, Drew Bowden, Kinematic, Holy Cow and the wandering minstrel Paul Dillon (just to name a few) all rocking the Baha stage, it is no wonder we've been so successful. Great food and great music are really all that is required to bring people together for a memorable night. That's what we have strived for from day one. Big love to all our local legends who continue to support our humble shack and to all our family, without whom none of what we have built so far would have been possible.
