BAHA •• Taco Joint + Live Music Bar •• 03 5985 2077

Baha is owned and run by style gurus Nathan, Jahna and Nick O'Brien. Offering kick-ass Mexican and Mediterranean food combined with great original live music, Baha is No. 1 amongst locals and Melbournians alike looking for great food and atmosphere at a reasonable price.

Baha has food to suit any appetite including tapas to share with your margaritas, Big Daddy Burritos and our famous Tacos. All can be enjoyed whilst watching some rockin' live tunes 3-4 nights a week - Baha is a great spot to sit back and chill over a few beers!

El Baha customers often say that Baha is such a unique and fantastic place, some even say the coolest night out in Victoria. While that may seem a bit elaborate (although we love hearing it), it is really two things that make our place what it is:

Great food and great original music.

Live music at Baha

Baha are proud sponsors of the PBS Tuesday night show "Everybody Moves" supporting live and original music from around Australia!

Baha stages live acts every Friday and Saturday, not to mention the occasional Thursday and Sunday gig, as well as the Peninsula Songrider's Club every second Wednesday. With our acts hailing from all parts of Australia as well as a healthy bunch from the peninsula, you can be sure that when you make it to our little shack for a night out, it will definitely be a night out to remember!

The Peninsula Songrider's Club is our "open mic" night, so bring an instrument and make some music of your own! Held every second Wednesday night and hosted by songsmith Marty Williams.

Our thanks to rockin' duderino Austin Brady for contributing The Baha Song to the website!

Our story so far

Whilst traveling through Mexico in our beat up Ford Econovan (aka The Brown Hornet, both our car and home for many months), we quickly became hooked on Baja's famous fish tacos. Healthy, tasty and more importantly cheap, they provided us with all the necessary food groups required to survive the large amounts of cerveza and tequila being consumed on our trip!

They also got us thinking seriously about the prospects of our own taco business back home in Australia so, armed with the fish taco and a bunch of other mouth watering recipes, we started our first mobile business. Baha Tacos quickly established itself on the music festival circuit as the favourite food of festival goers. Catering for vegetarians and carnivores equally, we quickly developed a reputation for fast food that was both healthy and a taste sensation.

With Nathan finishing Uni and Jahna well and truly sick of her bank job, we decided the time was right to expand the business into our first store. Needing a spot that reflected our food and style, we settled on the beautiful shores of Rye. Close to the surf and smack bang on the bay, Rye offered the perfect spot to start our taco revolution! Surrounded by a vast surf community and a music heartbeat second to none in Australia, it took us no time to build up a loyal and loving gang of Baha regulars who helped us establish a solid foundation in a very short period of time.

In 2011 we said "Adiós" to our first store and moved a short stroll down the road to what we're calling our "Bigger, Better, Baha" - more room, better facilities for our food and music, with the same awesome Baha vibe and atmosphere. Great food and great music are really all that is required to bring people together for a memorable night, and that's what we have strived for from day one. And with awesome chefs and crew, plus fantastic local and national bands rocking the Baha stage every week, it is no wonder we've been so successful!

Big love to all our local legends who continue to support us and to all our family, without whom none of what we have built so far would have been possible ...

Had a great night at Baha on Friday night - the margarita's were spot on, the food sensational (especially Mike's rice), and the music fabulous. Well done guys, looking forward to many great nights at Baha!

Charmaine & Brian Lee

If you are a Mexican food fanatic like me, then Baha Tacos in Rye is one for the 'to do' list! After hearing nothing but rave reviews from many of the Rye locals, I was itching to experience the hype for myself. Word on the street is this local hot spot has recently moved to a new venue with "loads more space" whilst maintaining its authentic Mexican vibe.

We started with the strawberry margaritas (nice and icy!) and decided on a shared menu which included some amazing fish tacos that were fresh & delicious (make sure you ask for them grilled) and a stack of melt in your mouth beef nachos packed with flavour, a generous serve of toppings and extra jalapeños ... perfect for hot heads like me! With gluten free options available on some meals and costing an average of $30 per head including entree (without drinks) Baha Tacos well and truly met my stomach's expectations.

After dinner, we opted for espresso martinis (ok, maybe not so Mexican) just in time for Piece Pai Reggae-Roots a live band to kick off, pumping out some funky beats and pulling in a decent sized crowd! With the band in full swing, we surrendered our table making room for those wishing to bust out some moves on the dance floor, finding some comfy couches in the bar area where we continued on with the night. The room was buzzing and featured interesting wall art, a cozy open fire and a small outside deck (perfect for those balmy summer nights) allowing us to enjoy the tunes and carry on with our conversation. After making a new friend with a regular, he tells me that Friday and Saturday nights are usually very busy with a good crew looking to have a few drinks, a bit of a groove and enjoy the live music.

Whilst it’s not the kind of place you would go for an intimate dinner, if you have a group of people and are looking for a good time with amazing food & fabulous music then definitely pay Baha Tacos a visit soon!
